An informed voter is an engaged voter. To help you stay informed, we will update this page regularly.

WHEN IS THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTION?

November 5, 2024   https://www.placercountyelections.gov/

HOW TO VOTE: Mail your ballot, place it in a drop box, or go to a voting center by Tuesday, November 5th.

I HEARD PLACER COUNTY HAS MOVED TO THE VOTER’S CHOICE ACT THIS YEAR. WHAT IS THAT, AND HOW WILL IT CHANGE THE WAY WE VOTE?

All Placer County voters will still receive a mail-in ballot from the Placer County Registrar of Voters. You won't notice a difference if you like to complete and mail in your ballot or use a drop box to return it.

If you prefer voting in person at the polls, you will notice a difference. Your neighborhood polling place has been replaced with a regional voting center, which will be open for voting for eleven or four days. For a complete description of the Voter’s Choice Act and a list of the voting centers and dates of availability, please consult the Placer County Elections Office Voter’s Choice Act Page.

WILL EVERYONE RECEIVE A MAIL-IN BALLOT, EVEN IF IT’S NOT REQUESTED?

YES. Per AB-37, signed by Governor Newsom in September 2021, all registered voters in California will receive a mail-in ballot. Voters can complete and mail their ballot, place it in an official drop box, or bring it to a voting center by March 5th to vote in person. https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration/vote-mail

HOW DO I CHECK MY VOTER REGISTRATION?

It’s easy to verify your voter registration and to check that your most current address is

correct. Use this link through the Placer County Registrar of Voters

https://www.placercountyelections.gov/am-i-registered/

It is wise to check your registration status before every election. We recommend that you check it anytime you have contact with DMV since some voters have had changes to their voter registration after obtaining DMV services.

I’M NOT REGISTERED. CAN I STILL REGISTER FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION?

YES! Here are some important dates to remember:

WHEN WILL THE VOTER’S GUIDE BE MAILED TO ME?

Voters will receive the official Voter Guide from the California Secretary of State in their mail in mid to late September. However, you can access the ONLINE GUIDE now.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY MAIL-IN BALLOT?

Voters will begin to receive their Vote-By-Mail Ballot on or around Monday, October 7th.

I WOULD RATHER USE A DROP BOX THAN MAIL MY BALLOT. HOW DO I FIND THE DROP BOXES?

The Placer County Registrar of Voters has multiple locations throughout the County where voters can drop off their ballots to be counted. Find the locations here.

NOW THAT I’VE RETURNED MY BALLOT, HOW DO I KNOW IT HAS BEEN RECEIVED AND COUNTED?

You’re in luck! You can receive information by email, text, and voice mail. Sign up for the Where’s My Ballot tracker for peace of mind.

I PREFER TO VOTE IN PERSON, BUT NOW THAT MY OLD POLLING PLACE IS GONE, WHERE CAN I GO TO VOTE?

Under the Voter’s Choice Act, you can go to any voting center in Placer County. You aren’t assigned to any particular location to vote. Use the Placer County Registrar of Voters link to find a list of center locations, dates, and available times. You can also drop your mail-in ballot off at any Placer voting center.
