February 2023 – besides Super Bowl, Valentines and Presidents’ Holiday, what’s up?
February means that most of us have given up on our New Year’s Resolution (if we made any) according to popular wisdom. Super Bowl LVII on February 12, followed by Valentine’s Day February 14 and then Presidents Holiday on February 20 means a month of snacking, chocolate and a long weekend to plan.
How do we fit in time for politics? Well, if you voted in the AD5 ADEM election, the news on who the new delegates are during the two year Presidential election cycle should be out mid-month. On January 22, 2023, the AD5 ADEMS election convenor Tomas Vera was joined by Deana Rhoades, Barbara Smith, Lisa Larkin, Susan Gutowsky, Leslie Vera and I at the Granite Bay Library. We served as an in-person voting location, including registering same day Democratic voters. A number of ADEM candidates were outside on a sunny but cold and windy day to meet voters and make a direct request for their vote for several hours. The 14 ADEM delegates will have voting rights at the May 25-28 Convention in Los Angeles as well as the Pre-Endorsement Convention in November 2023 in Sacramento. The Central Committee will work to bring these activists into our Standing Committees as well as the current Supervisorial vacancies in Districts 4 & 5.
Another outreach effort underway is a closer working relationship with El Dorado County Central Committee especially for AD5 which is comprised of both counties. Michael Saunders from the El Dorado County Central Committee has committed to working with our Campaign Services Standing Committee on a better coordinated effort for our Assembly, Senate, and Congressional candidates.
Keeping our focus on the 2024 Presidential cycle must start early in 2023 if we are to go “Blue in 2024”. We must do a better job of getting our message out and hold the Republicans accountable for their votes. Our success in 2024 depends on engaging more volunteers and activists as well as fundraising to reach out to Democrats and left leaning voters. Stay tuned for more information on where you can plug in! Feel free to let me know your ideas at chair.pcdp@gmail.com. Your volunteer time to organize these activities would be very helpful!
