The Trump Administration and Republican Party have launched a campaign of terror against immigrants in Placer County and our nation as a whole. Whether it is undocumented immigrants, asylum seekers, Dreamers, or visa holders, no immigrant’s status is safe as Republicans role out new deportation schemes and ways to attack legal pathways to citizenship. This includes Congressman Kevin Kiley introducing H.R. 864 to deny states the right to control their own law enforcement agencies by allowing state and local agencies to assist or cooperate on immigration enforcement actions, even if it exceeds their authority under state law.
These people being targeted are our family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, employees, and community members. Like all people, they are deserving of being treated with kindness and dignity. These Republican Party efforts are having real impacts in our communities. No child should be afraid to go to school or afraid that they will never see their parents again.
Here are resources on how you can protect yourself and those who are vulnerable in your community:
This hotline is only to report ICE activity in the Sacramento Area, or seek help for someone detained in the past 24 hours. There is language capacity in Spanish and English. There is usually only 1 dispatcher at a time. If the line is busy, it is because they are speaking with someone else. The Rapid Response Hotline responds by sending trained Moral and Legal Observers to document ICE activity. They gather information for the legal team and refer families to attorneys for a consultation. The Sacramento Rapid Response Hotline is operated by NorCal Resist.
