August 2024
Hot August nights aren’t just for our neighbors in Reno; the Democratic activism in Placer County is heating up as well. The Placer County Democratic Central Committee will be endorsing Placer County Democrats for local races on August 14th. After that our campaign operations will be in full swing supporting candidates up and down the ballot. The Placer County Democratic Party’s 11th Annual Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner will be held Saturday night, August 17th. This is our biggest event of the year. This year, Toni Atkins will be our keynote speaker and we will be recognizing outstanding local activists. From August 19th through the 22nd, the Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago; Vice President and former California Senator Kamala Harris will become the Democratic Party’s Presidential Nominee. And if that is not enough for you, Neva Parker is having a big event on Thursday, August 29th, to celebrate her birthday. More info on the birthday bash to come.
July also happened to be an eventful month. Nationally, things were starting to look dark, but then President Biden took action and flipped the script. We are thankful for his selfless service to our nation and party. Now Democrats are once again fired up for this Presidential Election to elect Vice President Harris, and to keep Donald Trump and J.D. Vance as far from the White House as possible. Jessica Morse has attracted the attention of some high-profile Democrats. Adam Schiff, Betty Yee, and Jon ‘Bowzer’ Bauman have all visited Placer County this summer. Neva Parker has been growing her team and showing that she is in it to win. School Board candidates have been out and about raising money and recruiting volunteers. Not coincidentally, Democrats had a great showing at the Roseville 4th of July Parade this year.
With things looking up, we can take a moment to celebrate. Kamala Harris is looking better and better each day. If you would like to support her campaign, please visit her website at https://kamalaharris.com/. Stay tuned for yard signs. J.D. Vance imploding as a vice presidential candidate is another thing to celebrate. If you like cats or reproductive choice, please join us at our Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner this month. Once the national convention wraps up and students start heading back to school, though, it will be time for all of us to be focused on what is at stake. Our Democratic candidates cannot win without your donations and volunteer hours. The time is now to put in the work to keep the Presidency, flip the House, and take back our school boards.
