January 2023 – what shall we do with ye
Please pardon the title pun – my weak attempt at rhyming! January is often a time of reflecting and New Year Resolution(s). After reflecting on what worked and what fell short during the midterm election cycle, I am spending some time considering how best to proceed to get our Democratic message out to more of our neighbors and like-minded community. One thing is crystal clear: more engagement is needed. How do we build and improve while keeping activists engaged, recruit more volunteers as well as recruit nonpartisan office candidates? Keeping our focus on the 2024 Presidential cycle must start early in 2023 if we are to go “Blue in 2024”. Personally, I am gratified that Proposition 1 (Constitutional Right to Reproductive Freedom) passed in Placer County by a margin of 55-45% or roughly 17,000 votes. Many of these voters supported our Democratic values but then split their vote by electing Republicans who do not support their right to bodily autonomy. We must do a better job of getting our message out and hold the Republicans accountable for their votes.
The Central Committee is looking at several ways to involve interested voters in casual and fun activities to grow our community - family by family, neighborhood by neighborhood and club by club. Our goal is to start small in the first few months and we invite your ideas on how to accomplish this! Feel free to let me know your ideas at chair.pcdp@gmail.com. Your volunteer time to organize these activities would be very helpful! Don’t forget to join our Bingo 10.0 Fundraiser on January 13, 2023, and stay tuned for dates and activities as 2023 moves forward!
